Commissioner Kreidler’s Climate Summit Series is back for one final iteration in 2024.
The video series covers the intersection of climate change and the insurance industry. The past seven years have featured presentations from climate scientists, researchers tracking public attitudes toward climate change, insurance executives addressing climate change, leaders of Tribal communities being affected by climate change and state and national elected officials working to address climate change.
Last year’s series included an hour-long feature on the Methow Valley Climate Action Plan and a miniseries, the Wildfire Symposium, on mitigating the impacts of wildfires on communities and how the insurance industry is working to help.
Commissioner Kreidler announced last year that he will not be running for re-election, meaning the 2024 edition will be the final installment of the long-running series under his watch.
This year’s series features:
- An update from the Yale Program on Climate Communications.
- A presentation on how insurers innovate for climate risk.
- State Climatologist Guillaume Mauger discussing how climate change in Washington is leading to more frequent, and larger, floods.
- Dr. Ron Dembo of RiskThinking.AI discussing his company's comprehensive climate analytics and data platform.
- A chat with Commissioner Kreidler, looking back at his work on climate change during a 24-year tenure as Washington's Insurance Commissioner.
We'll add each video in our 2024 Climate Summit Series to the OIC's YouTube page. The full series is free to watch, and we’ll notify you when new videos are posted.
