Premium thresholds for statistical reporting
RCW 48.19.370 has rules about statistical reporting for property and casualty insurers. Chapter 284-24B WAC has general requirements for statistical reporting. Chapter 284-24C WAC has specific requirements for medical professional liability reports.
If you have a small premium volume (except for medical professional liability), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Statistical Handbook explains how you should report. If your statewide written premium for the given line of business:
- Is over a certain threshold, you need to report your data using the statistical plan in the handbook.
- Isn't over the threshold, you need to report some data under our statistical plan.
Washington state doesn't have statistical plans for insurers with small premium volumes. Therefore, you don't need to report if your premium volume isn't over the threshold in the NAIC Statistical Handbook.
For a summary of the premium thresholds in the NAIC Statistical Handbook, see the table below.
Note: The NAIC Statistical Handbook doesn't include premium thresholds for some lines of business. If you write these lines of business in Washington state, you need to report your data to a designated statistical agent.
Medical professional liability insurance
If you have data that Chapter 284-24C WAC requires, you need to report it to a designated statistical agent. There are no exceptions for small premium volume.
You do not need to report data for lines of business that:
- The NAIC Statistical Handbook doesn't cover.
- Have no designated statistical agent.
