When to file a complaint
If you think an insurer or agent has violated the law or treated you or your claim unfairly, you should file a complaint. Common reasons to file a complaint against your insurer include:
- Unfair claim denial
- Unreasonable claim delays
- Unsatisfactory claim settlement
File a complaint with the Office of the Insurance Commissioner.
When to report insurance fraud
If you believe a person in Washington state is trying to cheat or commit fraud against an insurer or agent, you should report insurance fraud to our office. Common reasons to file an insurance fraud report include:
- Falsely reporting a stolen vehicle or property
- Filing claims with multiple companies, sometimes known as double-dipping
- Medical insurance fraud
Report insurance fraud to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner.
