OLYMPIA, Wash. — Scott Kipper, the Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s Deputy Commissioner for Operations, is leaving the OIC to lead the Nevada Division of Insurance. Kipper’s last day with the OIC is Friday, February 24.
Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler thanked Kipper for his work in the Evergreen State and congratulated him on his new role.
“Scott has been a reliable and knowledgeable member of our Executive Management Team,” Kreidler said of Kipper, who joined the OIC in March of 2022. “We will miss his steady hand and his confident leadership, but I look forward to seeing him continue his excellent work in Nevada.”
Kipper previously served as the Nevada Insurance Commissioner from 2008 to 2010 and again from 2011 to 2015. His new tenure in the familiar position begins Monday, February 27.
“The OIC has been a great place to work, and Washington has been a terrific place to live,” Kipper said. “The Commissioner position in Nevada is a job I am familiar with, and it allows me the opportunity to be closer to my family.”
Kipper has worked in the insurance industry for more than 30 years. Before joining the OIC he operated his own private consulting firm to provide technical expertise on insurance issues for clients across the nation.
He has also served as the Insurance Administrator of the Oregon Insurance Division, Deputy Commissioner at the Office of Health Insurance for the Louisiana Department of Insurance, and Senior Regional Director for State Affairs at America’s Health Insurance Plans.
Kreidler has appointed Melanie Watness as the OIC’s acting Deputy Director for Operations. Watness was previously the office’s Director of Employee Engagement and Performance Management.
