What is a company?
A company is a business entity authorized to sell insurance in the state of Washington. Use the Office of the Insurance Commissioner's agent, agency and company lookup tool to find information about insurance companies.
Search by name
- Choose "Search All companies" or "Search Active companies only." By default, "Search All companies" will be selected.
- Enter the name of the company you want to search for.
- Click "Search."
Helpful tips:
Sort the results by Name, WAOIC, City, State or Status by clicking the column heading in the search results table.
Search by types of coverage
- Select a type of coverage from the drop-down menu.
- Click "Search."
Some companies may be authorized to sell a type of insurance but are not actively selling it. Contact the company to confirm that they’re selling a particular type of insurance.
Search by organization type
- Select an organization type from the drop-down menu.
- Click "Search."
Helpful tips:
Company organization type defines a specific industry in the insurance market (i.e. life, property and casualty). Company organization types can be associated with one or many lines of business.
Additional search options
Washington State license number (WAOIC): The state license number that our office issues to agents and companies authorizing them to sell insurance in Washington state. The search field requires a complete five-digit number.
National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) number: A nationwide ID number issued to insurers by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. It’s different than the license number our office gives to companies authorizing them to sell insurance in Washington state. The search field requires a complete five-digit number is required.
Type of company information available in the tool
Contact information: Includes registered address,mailing address and phone number.
Types of coverage authorized to sell: Types of insurance a company is authorized to sell in Washington state.
Appointments: View agents and agencies authorized to represent a company. Some companies do not have appointments.
Company complaint history: View a two-year history of complaints submitted by consumers to our office.
Disciplinary orders: Find out if a company has broken any state insurance laws in the past two years.
Ratings by financial organizations: Links to organizations that rate the financial strength and stability of insurance companies.
