What to expect after you sign up for Medicare

Find out when your Medicare coverage starts, when to expect your Medicare card and when you’ll receive a Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) or Explanation of Benefits (EOB).

When you’ll get a Medicare Summary Notice or Explanation of Benefits

Every three months Medicare will send you an MSN (if you have Original Medicare) or an EOB (if you have Medicare Advantage) that explains the care that you received.

These documents are not a scam. It’s important that you review them carefully to make sure that you received everything listed. You can review your MSN or EOB with a SHIBA volunteer if you suspect that you are being charged for care that you did not receive.
