Medicare drug coverage Part D helps pay for the prescription drugs you need. It's optional and offered to everyone with Medicare by private companies approved by Medicare.

If you choose a Medicare Advantage Part C plan with prescription drug coverage, don’t sign up for a Part D plan too, or you might lose your Part C plan.

What does it cost?

Part D requires a monthly payment, usually about $33, for most people. You might also need to pay for some services or medications yourself.

What does Part D include?

If you’re covered by employer or retiree insurance and enroll in Part D, you risk permanently losing your coverage. Check with your current plan administrator before you make any decisions.
