Applying for admission
The Washington state Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) invites insurance companies to apply for admission to our state. We offer a business-friendly climate with a Top-10 ranking among states in a recent Forbes magazine survey of “The Best States for Business.”
Our regulatory environment is fair and reasonable and we use the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) uniform certificate of authority application (UCAA) forms to review and process your applications quickly.
Filing your application
We encourage you to submit your applications electronically through the NAIC and, in most cases, we do not require hard copies in addition to the electronic application. You can begin the application process by choosing to file a:
- UCAA primary application for newly forming Washington domestic companies or an existing company wishing to re-domicile to Washington
- UCAA expansion application for companies domiciled in other states or U.S. territories expanding into Washington
- UCAA corporate amendments application for existing licensed insurers requesting amendments to their Washington certificate of authority
