Initial enrollment period 

You can first sign up for Medicare during a seven-month period around your 65th birthday. It starts three months before your birthday, includes the month of your birthday and ends three months after you turn 65.  

If you sign up for Medicare during the three months before your birthday, your coverage will start the first day of your birthday month. If you enroll in Medicare during or within three months after your birthday month, your coverage will start the first day of the next month. 

About the different parts of Medicare 

Medicare has four different parts: A, B, C and D. Each has its own benefits. 

Original Medicare includes Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (medical insurance) and Part D (prescription drug coverage). 

You can make a difference in the lives of others by helping them navigate Medicare. You don’t have to know Medicare – we’ll train you! And, if you speak another language in addition to English, that’s a bonus!

What you can appeal 

If you disagree with your Medicare supplement (Medigap) plan's decision on coverage or payment, you can file a complaint with us. We regulate these plans for Washington state.
